HELP!! OUR CLOTH NAPPIES ARE NOT WORKING - REPELLING LIQUID!!!

by MotherofJWEComment Published at 16:3916:393 comments3 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport

HELP!!  Our son's pocket nappies (microfleece lining) nappies are repelling liquid!  We do occasionally use pure lanolin as a nappy "cream" so there may be some residue from this on thye nappies. I may also have been using a little too much detergent.

I have done several hot rinses yet they still repel. Have tried washing them in dishwashing liquid - still repel.  I no longer add vinegar to the final rinse as I was concerned this might not have been good for the elastic in our pocket nappies. Is this happening because I have stopped using vinegar?

Any other suggestions for stripping the nappies?

Nappies for sale

A friend of mine has just started selling nappies on ebay.  They are a system she has used for years, that come from Japan.  So many people have asked her about them she has decided to sell them in Australia - and they seem very reasonable to me.  So drop by and have a look - and email her with any questions....

I was looking into these but it seems to hard to believe. Can you really use them as a pilcher type thing and do they really stop leaks? HOW?? also I read that you don't have to wash them all the time just hang them out to dry and air... is this hygenic? what about smell? if you use these can you tell me why they are better than PUL covers.

I am wanting to make some all in one cloth nappies with 3 layers of flannelette material and a layer of PUL and a built in booster of 4 layers of terry towling. Does anyone have a good fool proof pattern they could email me with some basic instructions as I am not a sewer. thanks.

We are expecting our second baby in November and I would really like to use reusable nappies but don't relly know alot about them. I know that some companies do a complete birth to potty set - are these worth the money? and what is the best compny to use?

Where to begin?

by fairymama25Comment Published at 00:2600:263 comments3 comments26 Visits26 VisitsReport

Hi, Im pregnant with number 2 and always regretted not using real nappies with my first. Just wanted some advice over what to go for, there are so many different types! I think I want one that has the nappy that you then cover with a wrap. Could anyone recommend brands? My first daughter was tall and slim (as am I and my hubby..well i am when Im not pregnant!). Also which is better, dispoasble or washable liners?

Last questions... Can one size nappies really last from birth to potty? Or are they too bulky for a newborn? Is it better to get a brand that has a number of sizes?

Many thanks, Em xx

getting started

by kirstlesComment Published at 16:2916:291 comments1 comments11 Visits11 VisitsReport

Hi there everyone!

I am 32 weeks pregnant, and I really want to use cloth nappies as much as possible.  However, I am finding myself more than a little confused!!  There is virtually nothing available in the shops to have a look at.  I thought that what you needed was a terry/flannel velcro nappy ( of the right size!), a liner, and a plastic pant job that goes over the top.  But it seems that some brands have all this incorporated into 1 nappy.  Please can someone reccommend a brand that doesnt leak/looks funky and isnt going to cost a fortune to get started?

They got here fast!

by tooshComment Published at 23:4223:423 comments3 comments22 Visits22 VisitsReport

Well my Baby Beehinds Magicalls got here Monday - I only bought them off Ebay Thursday afternoon! The are fantastic - I just love them, the only thing I don't like too much is the white lining - I much prefer the lining in the Peapods because it's coloured & doesn't show stains.

On Tuesday I went to the post box to get the mail & there was a parcel for me, I wasn't expecting anything so I went in to get it & I had won a Bum Genius pocket nappy! I haven't used it yet but it came with an absorbent pad for it & also a booster. It's an all white one but who can complain when it's free!
